Houston-based Journalist Wins Blogger of the Year and Goes in Search of his Biological Father

HOUSTON (Sept. 15, 2009) - Jesse Muhammad, affectionately known as Brother Jesse,jboneywon three 2009 Annual Black Weblog Awards on Sept. 4, 2009. Based on results from the popular vote, his blog won "Blog of the Year," "Best Personal Blog" and "Best Twitter Microblog."

"I am truly humbled by the overwhelming support from my readers and the public. I dedicate these awards to them," says Brother Jesse.

The Black Weblog Awards was founded in 2005 to give recognition to black bloggers and those in the African Diaspora. With participants from over 90 countries, the Black Weblog Awards is one of the most widespread Internet awards for black bloggers.

"The mission of my blog is to inspire people to overcome mediocrity and take action. This honor is truly a testament to that. Our best work is yet to come," says Brother Jesse.

Derrick Muhammad: Thank you for allowing us to sit down with you two brilliant scholars. First, we’d like to ask how did you determine that A Black Life = Collective Power + Individual Impact?  
Dr. Janice Anderson: Sure, thank you. We’ve done extensive research over the years. But we realized that no one has really calculated how much a life was worth nominally, especially a Black life. We began to conduct studies and realized that although Oprah, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and now we can add Professor Gates all had contributed enormously individually.
